by zenseeker First and foremost, we have to talk about…. Friday Night Lights – Friday nights at 9pm/8c
You do not have to be a football fanatic to love this show. Great storylines and real, carefully drawn people. I think it’s what most city people envision small town living to be like, (A simpler existence…. One Amtrak pass please). Wonderful cast, almost all unknowns who have totally risen to the occasion. Unfortunately, it’s one of the shows that most people don’t even think about watching…thus the reason it’s not high up in the ratings, BUT, I keep hearing from people who give it a chance that they too fall in love. (Pssst… buy or rent season one) For those of you not watching yet: Simple setting: Small rural town of Dillon Texas where the town rallies for it’s team and it’s players, sometimes culminating in Friday nights game, but, let me repeat… you don’t have to be diehard football fan. It’s a pleasure watching the dynamics between Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his wife, high school guidance counselor, Tami (Connie Britton)…I don’t think I’m alone by saying… I’d like me a little of that marriage. Well if you want to root for the geek, then you should be watching: Chuck – Mondays at 9:00
Josh Schwartz has done it again…. First we rooted for Seth and Rachel on the O.C. now nothing would make us happier than to see the newest beauty and the geek, Chuck and Sara together. The Bionic Woman - Wednesdays at 9:00
For many of us, Lindsay Wagner and Lee Majors are major memories tied to our childhood (okay, yes, too much time in front of the tube…but obviously I’ve embraced it.) Hmmm…very curious. So… we now have a relatively, unknown, Michelle Ryan (a Brit with an impeccable American Accent) who has an “Alias” background (young girl thrown into a lifestyle of taking out the bad guys without really knowing what she’s signed up for) coupled with supersonic “Heroes” style strength. Okay, I’m in. It’s one of those shows that keeps getting better with each episode and especially when they added a handsome, charming male government agent (Jordan Bridges, son of Beau Bridges, nephew of Jeff Bridges) for Jaime to flirt with as they cross paths missions. For those of you not watching yet: Jaime Sommers (Ryan) gets into a horrible car accident and when she wakes up she has had a cutting edge top secret operation. Never asking for this new role, she must come to terms with what it means to be the Bionic woman. Heroes – Mondays at 9:00 pm
Okay so the first season took us by surprise… the phenomenon that exploded (literally). Second season started off rocky caused by the introduction of new not-as-developed-characters introduced as well as disappointing that some of the old one’s who we’ve grown to know were temporarily pushed aside. But by the time we reached the ‘season finale’ of the first half it had started to get back on track. Hayden Panettiere, the cheerleader, is by far the most interesting character and actor on the show. It’s different, it’s unusual and it’s not predictable. For those of you not watching yet: A drama about a group of everyday people, young, old, from all over the world, who possess extraordinary abilities. They are learning to make the right choices regarding their powers as well as taking on the responsibility of saving the world. It's a nice escape into a different world.
Really popular concept right now….. Taking a page from Heroes and literally from the novel The Time Traveler’s Wife (a movie currently in production – can’t wait, can’t wait). Dan disappears and travels back in time to aid in a situation. Unfortunately, Kevin McKidd (so mesmerizing in the HBO series “Rome” and so yummy) is wasted here. The show never quite goes deep enough because most of the storylines are wrapped up in a one episode. For those of you not watching yet: Dan Vassar(McKidd) is a San Francisco, newspaper reporter who for no apparent reason starts to travel back in time to help people. Along the way he runs into his long lost ex-fiancée which puts a strain on his marriage back home. The Current Must See Thursday's Comedy Block: 30 rock- Thursdays at 8:30 pm
For those of you not watching: Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) produces the variety show TGS (echos of SNL---both produced by Lorne Michaels). Her day to day life involves to reining in the star of her show, the man-child, Tracy (Tracy Jordan), pacifying the ego of Jenna (Jane Krakowski – “Ally McBeal”) once the star of the show and placating network executive Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) and his corporate ass kissing. Jack McBrayer often steals the show with his role as Kenneth the Page, an incredibly eager, country bumpkin page. The Office - Thursdays at 9:00 The Office, the office, the office. Sometimes…. Genius… and other times I am not really invested. It all depends on how far they push the envelope with Michael’s (Steve Carell) character. Still love the Pam and Jim relationship, glad they are finally together but curious about where it will go. Every now and then, there is a gem of an episode so it’s hard to not watch. For those of you not watching yet: Based on the critically acclaimed, Ricky Gervais, BBC series of the same name, this comedy is a look at the 9-5 life shot from a documentary style parody perspective. Scrubs – Thursdays at 9:30
Now in its last season - lucky number 7 … who could think of a more unique show. Characters ramble, burst into song, go into dream sequences, flashbacks, with such tongue in cheek, sometimes really out in another universe humor. But you’re never getting recycled goods… it’s as original as it gets and it will be sad to see it go. For those of you who aren’t watching yet: There’s still time to enjoy this offbeat show. It’s a comedic take, yet extremely poignant at times, about the life as a doctor or a nurse. Do a search on your Dvr’s for Scrubs and you’ll find it on various networks at an assortment of times… or start at the beginning and netflix/buy each season to take it all in. Everything old is new again..... E.R. – Thursdays at 10:00 Back later with info Lipstick Jungle, based on the best selling novel by Candace Bushell (Sex and the City). It stars, Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price.
